Alloy 625 INCONEL® 625 – W. Nr. 2.4856 / UNS N06625 / ASTM B446, B443, B564

Alloy 625 INCONEL® 625

Alloy 625 INCONEL® 625 is a nickel-chromium alloy with molybdenum and niobium additions, designed to provide high mechanical strength, excellent weldability, and outstanding corrosion resistance in extreme environments. The alloy offers excellent performance across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic conditions up to 982°C.

Its mechanical strength is derived from the reinforcement of the nickel-chromium matrix by molybdenum and niobium, without the need for precipitation hardening treatments. This combination of elements makes INCONEL® 625 highly resistant to corrosion in marine, chemical, and high-temperature environments, while also ensuring resistance to thermal fatigue and oxidation.

The alloy is governed by several international standards, including:

  • ASTM B446 (bars and wires)
  • ASTM B443 (sheets and strips)
  • ASTM B564 (flanges and forgings)

Heat treatments

  • Standard annealing: 980-1100°C with air cooling to optimise ductility and corrosion resistance.
  • Solution treatment: 2000-2200°F (1093-1204°C) to improve creep resistance.
  • Rapid cooling: Recommended to maintain a homogeneous microstructure and avoid unwanted precipitation phenomena.
