Alloy 36 is a low thermal expansion nickel-iron alloy containing 36% nickel. It maintains nearly constant mass within normal atmospheric temperature ranges and has a low expansion coefficient at high temperatures. The alloy also retains good strength and toughness at low temperatures down to -260°C. It can be hot or cold formed and is easily machinable using methods similar to those for austenitic stainless steels. Alloy 36 is weldable using CF36 filler metal, available as standard TIG and MIG/MAG welding wire.
Alloy 36 is supplied in:
Sheets and strips
Rolled plates
bars,
tubes
MAIN APPLICATIONS:
Used for length standards,
measuring instruments,
laser components,
bimetallic thermostat strips,
thermostat rods, and containers and pipelines for LPG transport.
