HASTELLOY® B-3 – W. Nr. 2.4600 / UNS N10675 / ASTM B333, B335, B564

HASTELLOY® B-3

HASTELLOY® B-3 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent corrosion resistance in highly reducing environments, such as hydrochloric, sulfuric, acetic, and phosphoric acids. This alloy is particularly resistant to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.

Compared to the previous HASTELLOY® B-2 alloy, the B-3® version shows a lower tendency to precipitate undesirable phases in the 500-820°C temperature range, thus improving workability and corrosion resistance.

Reference standards:

  • ASTM B333 (plates and sheets)
  • ASTM B335 (bars)
  • ASTM B564 (forgings)

Heat treatments

  • Solution annealing: 1050 – 1080°C with rapid cooling in water, compressed air, or protective gas.
  • Hot forming: Processing temperature between 1232 and 982°C, followed by solution annealing to maintain corrosion resistance.
  • Cold forming: If deformation exceeds 15%, subsequent solution annealing is required.
