Alloy 600 INCONEL® 600 – W. Nr. 2.4816 / UNS N06600 / ASTM B166, B168, B564

Alloy 600 INCONEL® 600

Alloy 600 INCONEL® 600 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy designed to provide corrosion resistance and high-temperature performance. This alloy features a unique combination of high mechanical strength and excellent workability. Thanks to its high nickel content (min. 72%), INCONEL® 600 is highly resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking and maintains its integrity even in oxidizing and reducing environments.

The addition of chromium provides resistance to oxidizing and sulfurous environments, while iron enhances the alloy’s robustness. INCONEL® 600 is not precipitation hardenable, but can be strengthened through cold working.

Thanks to its versatility, this alloy is used in a wide range of applications, from cryogenic low temperatures up to temperatures exceeding 1095°C.

Reference standards:

  • ASTM B166 (bars and wires)
  • ASTM B168 (sheets and strips)
  • ASTM B564 (flanges and forgings)

Heat treatments

  • Solution annealing: 1010 – 1150°C with rapid cooling in air or water to maintain corrosion resistance.
  • Hot forming: Optimal temperature range between 1040 and 1230°C, with subsequent cooling to prevent carbide precipitation.
  • Cold forming: Excellent workability with a greater tendency to work hardening compared to stainless steels.
